Abstract

This study aims at analyzing the psychopathy actions and the symptoms of psychopathy portrayed by Kevin Khatchadourian as the major character in We Need To Talk About Kevin novel by Lionel Shriver. In this study, the writer used qualitative method and applies The theory of The Psychopathology of Everyday Life by Sigmund Freud (1901). The result of this study shows some of psychopathy actions portrayed by Kevin such as complicated emotions, where started at Kevin’s very young age when he can not control his anger and sadness. The second action found is lack of attentions, where Kevin has difficulty of paying attention and acting without regards to consequences. The third one is faulty acts. In the novel, it is mentioned that Kevin is the one who kill his sister’s guinea pig, being the one who is indicated as the one who make his sister loses one of her eyes, and the one who do the school massacre. The fourth psychopathy action is forgetting of intentions, where Kevin is simply forget the reason why he did the murders. Other results are some symptoms of psychopathy that are found such as forgetting of impression and resolutions, and symptomatic and chance actions.
