Abstract

This study aims at analyzing in the types of word formation and the process of naming the application of social media in android operating system. The descriptive qualitative was used as the approach of the study. Furthermore, the data source was taken from Google Play Store in android operating system. In analyzing the data, the theory of George Yule was used to describe the types and processes of word formation. Based on the data findings, there were 8 data of coinage, 1 data of borrowing, 2 data of compounding, 4 data of blending, 2 data of clipping, and 5 data that consist of combination of two types which belong to multiple processes. In addition, it can be seen that coinage is the type of word formation used mostly in this study.
