Abstract

This study is aimed at revealing what masculinity stereotype issue and how people respond to the issue of the culture based on the novel The Boy in The Dress by David Walliams (2008). The writer used a qualitative method to analyze the issue, and this study used Ian M. Harris’s theory. Based on the analysis, some factors influence masculinity stereotypes such as family, people, and culture. The result of this study shows that not only women who bridled by stereotypes, but men also feel it. Based on this study, men hide their feelings, act though to show that they are a real man in society. Some men who are exhausted to be social “s doll, try to break those masculinity standards. Judgments from society come to make them feel ashamed of breaking stereotypes. Hence, with courageous, they prove to society that gender and sex are different.
