Abstract

The study entitled “The Representation of Class Struggle in Victoria Aveyard’s Red Queen” aims to portray class struggle in the society depicted in the Red Queen novel. This study focuses on the class struggle concept, the triggers, and the effect of class struggle represented in society, showing how the relationships between the upper-class bourgeoisie, who have the means of production, and the lower class proletariat, who only have the labor to survive. The class struggle concept by Marx (1848) is used in analyzing the issue. The data findings revealed that class struggle started with the oppression given by the bourgeoisie to the proletariat, triggered by envy and the awareness from a class or an individual. The class struggle is the result of the imbalance between the two classes. Class struggle divides into three parts: the first is economic, the second is political, and the last is ideological. The class struggle caused the rebellion, as described in the Red Queen novel.
