Abstract

Generally, women could not defeat men in a physical competition. However, they were able to outperform men in other fields. If studied in-depth, the competition between men and women has occurred for a long time. Men who were more superior always try to dominate and oppress women, meanwhile, women who were more inferior continued to struggle against male domination. The objectives of this study were to analyze the oppression experienced by three female characters in Qaisra Shahraz’s The Holy Woman, namely, Zari Bano, Sahzada, and Fatima, and also to analyze the forms of struggle carried out by the three female characters against the oppression they experienced. However, to dissect the issue in the novel, the writer used Simone De Beauvoir’s feminism book (1953). Meanwhile, in the research process, the writer used a qualitative method in which the findings and the data analysis of this study were presented in the form of an essay or a narrative text. The results of this study showed that the three female characters in Qaisra Shahraz’s The Holy Woman were non-priority, inferior, and oppressed beings. However, the suffering they experienced ultimately gave them the courage to fight against male superiority in their communities, and due to their struggle, they were finally able to free themselves from the oppression.
