Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze characteristic traits that are described as inferiority feelings and the effects of inferiority feelings toward parental separation represented by Sunflower. The object is Call Me Sunflower (2017) novel by Miriam Spitzer Franklin. This study used Psychoanalysis approach, specifically the theory of Individual Psychology by Alfred Adler (1997). This study applies qualitative method since the analysis is presented in the form of essay and the data taken are in the form of text and paragraphs. The results show that the main character possesses the traits which are insecure, selfish, dishonest, timid, increased need for support, and oversensitivity. As the effects of feeling inferior, the main character experiences the negative effect of inferiority feelings, such as being maladjusted and defiant to her mother, and having low self-esteem. Meanwhile, as the outcomes of overcoming inferiority feelings, the main character gains security as the result of overcoming her insecurity, and does selfevaluation to reach her understanding toward the situation happened between her parents.
