Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the appropriateness of textbooks used by English teacher, to know in what way the textbooks are appropriate, and to discover whether or not the textbooks used by English teacher fulfill the criteria of good textbook. This study was conducted to evaluate two English textbooks used by fourth-grade students in two elementary schools entitled “Our World” and “Stairway”. The writer used the instrument of evaluation process from BSNP and it was supported by the theory of Nation and Macalister (2010) to evaluate the textbooks. The writer used multiple data to obtain the result in data findings and qualitative method in order to analyze the English textbooks. The result showed that “Our World” has a ‘good’ score by achieving 87% of percentage and a ‘fair’ score for “Stairway” by achieving 72% of percentage.
