Abstract
The aim of this study was to improve the students’ reading skill by using music in tenth grade classroom as a learning media. The writer conducted a Classroom Action Research at SMK Gita Kirtti 1 Jakarta. The writer collected data through observation, test, and students’ questionnaires. The result of this study showed that the students improved their comprehension of reading text during teaching and learning process by using instrumental music. It is proven by the data which derived from this study. From the observation, it could be seen that the teacher’s peformance ran well in teaching learning process. The teacher made the students cooperative in teaching learning process, interested when the teacher applied instrumental music, and they obtained good achievement in reading comprehension. Then questionnaire result showed that students’ comprehension of reading text has improved. From test results, the improvement of students’ comprehension can be seen clearly in the improvement of their achievement in pre-test and post-test. The mean of Pre-Test score is 68. The minimal mastery level criterion in SMK Gita Kirtti 1 Jakarta is 75 seventy five. There were only 25% of the whole students could pass KKM. Then, the mean of Post-Test I score is 74,5. There were 70% student pass KKM. Next, the mean of Post-Test II score is 80,5. The percentage of students pass KKM is 82.8%. From the data can be concluded that students’ comprehension could be improved by using instrumental music while read the texts.
