Abstract

This study is aimed at finding and analyze the issue of the psychopathic personality of the main character in Melanie Joosten's Berlin Syndrome Novel. This study basically is to answer two basic questions; how psychopathic personality is depicted in the novel and what factors that cause the main character being a psychopath. To analyze the data, the writer uses psychoanalysis theory of Sigmund Freud (1920) and the theory of psychopathic personality from Robert D Hare (1980). The qualitative approach is used in conducting this study, also the data and result were presented in the form of essay. The findings indicate that the main character in Berlin Syndrome experiences the psychopathic personality in which the main character’s action affected the family.
