Abstract

This study attempts to analyze the patriotism aspect in Walt Whitman’s selected poems. This analysis focuses on the form of patriotism which are proud, loyalty, and resistance contained in the poem. The study of patriotism is necessary so that the people or audience will respect, proud and loyal to their country or their nation more. In this study it is applied the theory from Waluyo (1987). Qualitative approach is used in conducting this study; also the data and the result were presented in the form of essay. The results of this study shows that in Walt Whitman’s City Of Ships”, “Pioneer”, and “First O Songs For a Prelude” there are some patriotism aspect (proud, loyalty, and resistance) found.
