Abstract

The purposes of this study were to identity the types of code switching and to explain the functions of code switching in the Guest Star's Utterances in Sarah Sechan Net TV program. The first theories used to analyze the types of code switching was from Hoffman (1991) and the functions of code switching theory was from Gumprez (1982). The writer used qualitative approach in conducting the study. The analysis of this study was focused on types and functions of code switching used by in Guest Star's Utterances in Sarah Sechan Net TV program. From the data analysis, it was found that there are three types of code switching used by guest star namely intra sentential 22 times, inter sentential switches 13 times and emblematic switching 1 time. Then, it was found that there are five functions of code switching used by guest star namely addressee specification 29 times, quotations 3 times , reiteration 2 times, interjection 1 time and message qualification 1 time.
