Abstract

This study explored the nature, caused and the effect of racism in The Hate U Give novel. In order to analyze the theme, theory of Delgado and Stefancic’s Critical Race was applied. Racism has deep-seated in each part of America’s social structure. Society has absorbed the racism and applies it to their system. The result of this study shows that racism, even the most casual one, still exists in American society. Through the analysis of the data, it was found that black people are still vulnerable to racism even though American believes that their system is just for all race. This racism affects the way the protagonist sees, presents herself and also carries on her everyday activities. Keywords: Racism, Oppression, Black, White, Race, Society
