Abstract

ABSTRACT This study focused on analyzing the type and the reason of the speaker employed the directive illocutionary acts in speech video of Nick Vujicic based on the theory of Yule (1996) by using qualitative method. The data were taken from Nick utterances in the video from YouTube and the data collection was done by downloading the speech videos, watching and analyzing the utterance containing directive illocutionary acts. The result of this study showed that there are 40 data which were found in Nick Vujicic Video. Those are: Requesting (16), Ordering (17), Suggesting (2) and Commanding (5). Ordering has the highest frequency of using among others, that is seventeen times. Meanwhile, Suggesting has the lowest frequency of use among others, that is only two times. The most of the point of directive illocutionary act is that the speaker asks the hearers to do something (Ordering). Keyword: Directive Illocutionary Acts, types, reasons, speech videos.
