Abstract

This study is concerned to analyze the linguistic features and the meaning used in written advertisements. The writer used thirty High End’s magazine written advertisements as the main data sources. The data were analyzed based on the theory from Brinton (2000) in order to identify language style and Kreidler (2002) in order to analyze the meaning of advertisement’s headline. In conducting the study, the qualitative approach was used where data and the result of the study were presented descriptively. The purpose of this study was to identify the language style features which are applied in the advertisement in High- End Magazine and to describe the meaning of language styles which are expressed in the advertisement in High- End Magazine. Based on the study, the writer found the linguistic features which were used the advertiser were metonymy, tautology, personification, metaphor, synecdoche, and oxymoron which classified as type of language style. While, the semantic features to analyze the meaning which were used were sentence meaning, morpheme meaning, reference and denotation meaning, and connotation meaning.
