Abstract

This study was aimed at analyzing the unconscious mind in a novel by John Green by using Lacan's theory. The data source is a story from Hazel Grace where she has to go through life that depends on tools and medicine in a novel entitled The Fault in Our Stars. In conducting this study, the writer uses qualitative methods. Data is taken in various steps such as choosing a short story, identifying characters based on the Lacanian subconscious mind, and finding some influences from the characters. Symbolic order and real order. In this novel, the characters experience the unconscious mind through three stages. Imaginary stages in characters can be seen through their imagination. Symbolic stages in characters can be seen through one's ego. The stages of Real in character can be seen through the impossibility of character.
