Abstract

This study aims at describing the grammatical errors that happen in the examination of the sixth grade students of Solideo Gracias School located in Legok. Two goals of the study are formulated as following: first what types of grammatical error of Simple Present Tense in Writing made by the sixth grade Students of Solideo Gracias School at Legok. Second, what are the sources of those errors?. To conduct the data collection, the writer gave out two writing tasks to the target group of study population. In task 2, they were asked to write a 100-150-words essay on “ Family Daily activities “ topic, with 11 guiding points. Having gathered the data, the writer then identified all the errors occurring in each set of the ten samples. After that all errors had been identified and tabulated, the writer continued with errors classification and analysis using Qualitative method, through which she discusses what types of errors they are and what likely the causes of the errors are. The data were analyzed using the theory introduced by Brown (2000). The writer only focuses an analyzing the errors of students’ writing using inter lingual and intra lingual error. As the result the writer found out many errors that were done by students in using Simple Present Tense. Based on the analysis of grammatical errors the types of errors found were such as addition, omission, diction, jamak tunggal, spelling, mis-information, mis-ordering, article and capitalization, it can be concluded that students still have difficulties in learning grammatical structure in writing process.
