Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the types and functions of illocutionary acts found on 45 selected data from the dialogues in Arrow of the Mist novel. This study analyzed the functions of illocutionary acts from the dialogues as well. Other than that, this study also presented which types of illocutionary acts that occurred dominantly. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken and selected directly from the novel. This study also applied the speech acts theory by George Yule (1996). Next, the selected data were placed into the correct classification and then being analyzed in correspondence of the chosen theory. Finally, the types of illocutionary acts that occurred dominantly were concluded. From the analysis, the writer found the types of illocutionary acts from the dialogues in the novel are Declaration (declaring), representatives (stating, describing, concluding), expressives (statement of pleasure, pain, like, dislike, joy, sorrow), directives (ordering, commanding, suggesting, requesting), and commisives (promising, threatening). Directives is the type of illocutionary acts that dominantly occurred in the novel.
