Abstract

This research is amid at analyzing the relationship among representament, object, and interpretant on the car advertising on Suzuki Swift Sport, Daihatsu Terios, Nissan Juke, Mazda CX-5 and Toyota Vios advertisements and to find out what message that want to deliver to the reader based on Charles Sender Pierce’s Theory. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative, because semiotic analysis rarely uses quantitative method. It means that the writer collected certain advertisements and interpreted them in description. There are five advertisements included in this study. Those are Suzuki Swift Sport, Daihatsu Terios, Nissan Juke, Mazda CX-5 and Toyota Vios. The writer is interested in analyzing them because there are the hidden persuasive messages which are delivered to the readers. The data are collected from some automobile magazines. In analyzing those advertisements, the writer finds some signs in each of advertisement. Those are verbal and non-verbal sign also the color that dominated in each advertisement. This study analyzed object, verbal and non-verbal signs as representament, and interpretnt in those advertisements. Object is the product advertised, and interpretant is the result of the relationship between the representament and object. In this case, interpretant can be understood as a signs’ effect on the mind. From the analysis, the writer found that all of those advertisements have the different verbal and non-verbal signs, but the same message to persuade the readers.
