Abstract
The purpose of the study is to determine politeness strategies which are used in the dialogues ofPrincess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement movie. Also, the study is to explain how politeness strategy is applied in the movie. The object of this study is a movie entitled “Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement”. Qualitative method was used to analyze the data from the movie Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Then the theory from Brown and Levinson (1987) in analyzing the study was also applied.As the result, there are five politeness strategies that are found in the movie. They are bald on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, off record and perform the FTA. Each of them has a place in applying in a communication. Wheater it is realized or not, in our daily communication, there must be politeness strategy. In the end, the writer concludes that in every communication, we have to make sure that we have applied politeness strategy.
