Abstract

This study was entitled an analysis of slang words in Wiz Khalifa’s songs lyrics. This study focused in analyzing the types of the slang words and the meanings of the slang words. The goal of this study was to describe the use of slang words in the song lyrics. Qualitative method is used to analyze the data from the song lyrics. There are five songs that taken as the data sources. They are Work hard play hard, Breaking news, Mezmorized, Medicated and California, Then, Partridge theory (1950) is used to analyze this study and The Dictionary of American Slang and Unconventional English (2009) by Tom Dalzell was used to find the meanings of the slang words found in the song lyrics. The result of this study showed that the society slang is the most dominant type of slang words used in the song lyrics. Keywords: Language, Sociolinguistic, Slang words. Song Lyrics
