Abstract

This study was mainly aimed at finding psychological problems and defense mechanisms used of Rebecca Evans in the Roommate film depend on psychoanalysis theory by analyzing the evidence from the dialogues and her action within the film. The data of the analysis were taken from The Roommate film which is directed by Christian E. Christiansen. This study applied descriptive qualitative research method. Cherry’s and Freud’s theory were taken as the theoretical concept. Each data in the film which deals with Rebecca Evans psychological problems were taken to be analyzed. When the data were collected and identified, they were rewritten and classified according to their types. Finally, the data were analyzed descriptively using the theory of psychoanalysis. The result of this study was showed that Rebecca Evans has five psychological problems and five defense mechanisms used of Rebecca Evans. Keywords : Main Character, Psychology, Defense Mechanism
