Abstract

This research was aimed at knowing how psychopath is depicted in Patrick Suskind’s ‘Perfume’ novel that was published by The Penguin Group in England. This study used qualitative method to describe the characterization of the main character from psychological aspect to show the abnormality indicators, and identify the causes of psychopath happened in the main character. From the data analysis, it was found that there are some abnormality indicators, namely, maladaptiveness, statistical deviancy, violation of the standards of society, social discomfort, irrationality & unpredictability, and dangerousness. The causes of psychopath in this analysis emerged from the main character’s family and his environment. Keywords:Literature, Novel, Character, Qualitative Method, Psychoanalysis Psychopath.
