Abstract

This study is a pragmatics study which concerns in Politeness Strategy. This study analyze the positive politeness which found out several kinds of positive politeness strategy in the transcript of Unfaithful movie and what the factors influence the characters to employ this strategy. The data were taken from the dialogues of the movie script which indicate the employment of the positive politeness strategy. Hence, the descriptive qualitative method is used to approach the analysis of this study. The result of this study shows that there are 27 data which identify by using Brown and Levinson’s politeness strategy. From 27 data, the writer found that 2 data use a strategy of Notice, attend to hearer, (1data) Exaggerate, (2 data) Intensify interest to hearer, (3 data) Use in-group identity markers, (3 data) Seek Agreement, (4 data) Avoid Disagreement, (3 data) Offer or Promises, (2 data ) Be Optimistic, (3 data) Include both speaker and hearer in the activity, (1 data) Give (or ask for) Reason, (1 data) Assume or Assert Reciprocity, dan (2 data) Give gifts to hearer. The factors influence the characters to employ those strategies consist of payoff and the circumstance. It is a polite way to invite the hearer to be cooperate with the speaker’s wants.
