Abstract
The aim of this study is to get understanding and detailed explanation about the types of illocutionary acts in the dialogues of the “Runner-Runner” film. This study uses qualitative method as the guidance to analyze the dialogues. The writer classified the utterances in the dialogues by marking those utterances which are presumed into illocutionary act, explaining the utterances to understand what the speaker means by his/her utterances, who speaks, to whom the speaker speaks and what the speaker means by saying the utterances, categorizing it based on the types of illocutionary acts namely representatives, directives, commissives, expressives and declaratives using theory of Yule (1996). As the result, the writer found 47 data of illocutionary acts that were obtained from the dialogues in Runner-Runner film. As conclusion, there are 4 data of representatives that have the functions of concluding, asserting, and informing. There are 11 data of directives that have the functions of commanding, apologizing, asking, and requesting. There are 13 data of expressives that have the functions of praising, blaming, and thanking. There are 14 data commisives that have the functions of refusing, swearing, offering, and threatening. The last, there are 5 data declaratives that function as declaring. Keywords: Pragmatics, Speech acts, types of illocutionary acts.
