Abstract

The purpose of this study to deepen understanding in linguistics subject especially in pragmatics that is to analyze types of maxim and that factor in American Presidential candidates debates 2016. The data were taken from the transcripts of those debates that divided into 3 section. The writer uses qualitative method to analyze the data using Yule and Christoffersen’s theories. The result of this study showed about maxim violations in American presidential candidates debates and the factor that caused it. Key Words : Linguistics, Pragmatics, Cooperative Principle, Maxim, Violation of maxim.
