Abstract

The purpose of this study is to apply narratology in order to analyze motivation behind characters’ various actions in Clive Staples Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Motivation is the reason and aim of character causing the character to commit an action. Completely identical or similar acts can be motivated in the most varied ways.As stated by Vladimir Propp, motivation formulated in words is alien to the tale on the whole, and it may be considered with a great degree of probability as a new formation. The result of the study depicts how motivation behind various’ acts has its own formation in narrative structure, constituted by certain factor and condition found through the analysis of the tale.
