Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to identify Cooperative Priciple that is used by the Characters in the Imitation Game film script, to describe four maxims and to analyze implied meaning of that maxims. The data were collected from the film script, in the form of utterances of the dialogue. The writer uses qualitative method to analyze the data in “Imitation Game” film and the theory used in analyzing the dialogue is theory of cooperative principle and four maxims by Grice. There are 25 dialogues among the Characters that the writer collected to be analyzed. Based on the analysis the writer found that the characters violated the following maxims; 11 data were identified as a maxim of manner, 6 data as a maxim of quantity, and 4 data as maxim of quality 4 data as a maxim of relevance. Key words : Linguistics, Pragmatics, Cooperative Principle, Maxim.
