Abstract
This study, entitled “Domestic Violence in the film It Ends with Us (2024)”, analyzes the representation of domestic violence in the film It Ends with Us (2024). The focus of this study is on how domestic violence is depicted and how the protagonist deals with domestic violence in It Ends with Us (2024). The story follows Lily as she builds a life in Boston and enters a relationship with Ryle Kincaid that eventually becomes abusive. She must decide whether to stay or break the cycle of violence for her future. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method, with data presented through film scenes, dialogue, narrative, and cinematography elements. In conducting the analysis, this study uses Margi Laird McCue’s (2008) theory of domestic violence. The results show that the film depicts domestic violence as a repeating cycle involving control, guilt, and manipulation. Furthermore, the film shows the protagonist’s journey toward recovery through self-awareness and support from social service providers, the healthcare system, and the justice system. The findings reveal that domestic violence is a serious social issue and emphasize that breaking the cycle is possible through personal strength and external support systems.
