Abstract

This study aims to analyse the issue of gender stereotypes reflected in three characters in the novel Book Lovers (2022) by Emily Henry. This study method uses the qualitative approach by describing and analysing the characters in the novel. In order to analyse the data, the writer uses Sandra Bem’s theory from Gender Schema (1981). The results of this study show an analysis of gender stereotypes on how characters, personality traits, as well as responsibilities are considered appropriate for both genders. The study also illustrates that the main character can confront gender stereotypes by understanding herself to take opportunities to develop. The finding analysis of this study, it is concluded that character women and men are identified as femininity, masculinity, and androgyny when they perform actions intended for female and male.
