Abstract
This study focuses on the Morpho-Semantic Analysis of English Borrowing Words in Articles Published on the Website of Kementerian Perdagangan (KEMENDAG). The objectives of this study are to identify and classify the types of borrowing words (loanwords, loanshifts, and loanblends) and to analyse the semantic changes they undergo (specialization, generalization, metonymy, and metaphor) in the context of Indonesian trade policy discourse. This research applies Hockett’s (1958) classification theory of borrowed words and Geeraerts’ (2009) framework on semantic change. A qualitative-descriptive approach was used to analyse the data textually, drawing from three selected articles on the KEMENDAG website. The study identifies 60 English borrowings, consisting of 39 loanwords, 13 loanshifts, and 8 loanblends. The semantic changes found include 23 instances of specialization, 35 of generalization, 1 of metonymy, and 1 of metaphor. The findings show that borrowing in Indonesian trade discourse is not merely linguistic but also reflectssocio-economic realities and global trade dynamics. Ultimately, the adoption of English borrowings facilitates precise and effective communication in trade policy, aligning Indonesia’s economic discourse with international standards.
