Abstract

This study is purposed to uncover resistance in some poems written by Maya Angelou. Resistance is a struggle or effort done by subordinates because of discrimination. The discrimination usually puts one group as the minority and other as the majority. In this study, the role of minority force the doers of resistance to stay alive under domination of superiority. Resistance is one of the tools that should be done by dominated one in order to survive. This concept is applied to analyze resistance in three poems written by Maya Angelou entitled Caged Bird, Still I Rise, and Equality. The result of the study depicts how those three poems provides some unique kinds of resistance such as in form of action, voice, and encouragement. The resistance also has some reasons and impacts of its existance. Keywords : Post-colonialism, Resistance, Domination, Maya Angelou, Struggle.
