Abstract

This study was focused on the Slang Words in Instagram Captions which aimed to find out the types and meaning of slang word. The object of this study from the instagram captions of Stephanie Poetri. The writer applied the descriptive qualitative research method and collected the data from Stephanie’s captions. To guide this study, the writer used the perspective of Allan and Burridge (2006) theory of slang. The findings revealed that 32 data were found in the captions which were divided into 4 types of slang. The types include 17 clipping, 5 imitative, 5 fresh and creative, and 5 acronym. In this study, the dominant is clipping. Stephanie Poetri used a lot of clipping because more likely simply Stephanie Poetri's natural way of texting. The writer found out the meaning from Oxford online dictionary and Urban dictionary.
