Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the dominant factors contributing to speaking anxiety among the Sixth-semester students from the English Department, Regular CS class, Universitas Pamulang,A descriptive quantitative research design was employed, and data were collected through a questionnaire distributed to the participants. The sample consisted of 21 students from the sixth semester of the English Department, Regular CS class. selected using the Purposive Sampling Technique. The focus of the study was to understand the specific factors that made students feel anxious when speaking English, which is often a barrier to effective language acquisition and communication. The findings revealed that the most significant factors speaking anxiety was low self-efficacy, where students lacked confidence in their ability to speak English proficiently, leading to heightened anxiety. Additionally, irrational self-defeating beliefs were found to influence students' self-perceptions, making them believe they were not capable of speaking English well, which further exacerbated their anxiety, sweating, and a racing heart, which made students even more self-conscious and reluctant to speak.
