Abstract

The purpose of this study entitled “An Analysis of Major Characters in Divergent film based on Deconstruction Theory” is to describe about Beatrice and Tobias’s characterization using deconstruction perspective theory by Derrida (1991). The data were taken from Divergent film directed by Neil Burger. In conducting this study qualitative approach is used by which the data were collecting by watching the film completely in order to comprehend the storyline of the film and to finds the section contain the issues related to the characterization of major characters. Based on the finds of the study, there are three aspects based on Derrida (1991) theory that using to deconstruct some aspects of major characters in Divergent film. Those are by verbal, textual, and linguistics. The characterizations of Beatrice are described as smart, brave, strong, and cares, but become evil after being reverenge. Besides, the characterizations of Tobias are described as care and wise. This study might be useful for those who are interested in conducting a study on analysis of character.
