Abstract

This study aims at deepening the knowledge on Literature study, especially in Intrinsic Elements of a literary work which then is limited on external conflict and theme that can be observed in a film by James DeMonaco entitled “The Purge Anarchy”. In this study, the writer applies the theory of Milhorn (2008) as the theory of external conflict. The other focusing is a theme used theory of Griffith (2010).The result of this research shows that there are 2 (two) classifications of external conflict that appears in this film such as man versus man and man versus society. There is the main point after describing conflict that money gives a big power for everything. Thus, the conflicts and theme of the film “The Purge Anarchy” by James DeMonaco can be observed through the sub-scenes presented in this thesis. This study is useful for the readers’ and viewers’ knowledge about external conflicts and theme in the film. Keywords: Literature, Intrinsic Elements, Plot, Conflict, External Conflict, and Theme.
