Abstract

This study aims to analyze the experience of trauma experienced by the main character, Lily Bloom, in the novel It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. Using Caruth (1996) theory of trauma, this study explains how the experience of trauma is portrayed in the novel and how Lily Bloom copes with it. This study employs qualitative method. The results reveal that the factor that traumatized Lily was witnessing the domestic violence experienced by her parents as a child, which she felt again in her romantic relationships. The way she overcame it was by understanding the trauma and empowering herself through choice. The conclusion is that Lily Bloom describes a painful yet hopeful journey of overcoming trauma. By facing her past and making empowering decisions, she strives to break the cycle of violence and find her way to healing.
