Abstract

This study aims to examine the representation types of code and meaning in Zoe Kravitz movie Blink Twice through analyze of semiotic. Using Barthes’s theory in 1970 that is five codes, the writer analysis how five codes that is include in the movie and had an imply meanings. Code is a group of sign that has implied meaning in every word. Code can be everywhere around us because code can be an object, non-object, verbally or non-verbally. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, analyzing 19 data consisting visual and verbal code from the movie. These data are categorized by 5 of hermeneutic code, 3 proairetic code, 2 semantic code, 7 symbolic code, and 2 of cultural code. The analysis is presented in tables systematically display the five codes, hermeneutic, proairetic, semantic, symbolic, and cultural code for amount for each the type of code. Hermeneutic code is an enigma code, proairetic code is the code about the tension for every action that will happen in the next scene, semantic code is a code that appeared in the text or dialogue, symbolic code interpreted in everything that appeared like in an object, gesture, colour, and the way the character dresses. The last, cultural code is the code that connected with the cultural aspect.
