Abstract

This study aims at analyzingHistory of Puritans in The Heretic’s Daughter Novel by Kathleen Kent. This study used qualitative method to analyze the dialogues and actions written in the narrative form. After the data were collected and analyzed, furthermore, the data were written in the paragraph form. The writer used historicism theory by Marshall (1977) to know Puritans live, belief, thought and political situation in New England after their defeat to purify the Anglican Church in Old England portrayed in the Novel. This research explained that the reason whyPuritans movement to New England wereto get live freely and build a city which is full of people who are obedient to the teaching of bible. Puritans’fear about their situation in Old England made more them fanatics and has strict regulations for the people who want to live in New England especially in Massachusetts. Puritans’ thought about witchcraft bring them in bad situation; therefore Puritans’ dark history about witchcraft was recorded in many documents and literary works. One of them is The Heretic’s Daughter Novel. Keywords : Puritans lived, believed, though and historicism theory.
