Abstract
This study aimed to analyses gender inequality in The Female Persuasion novel by Meg Wolitzer. The writer aims to reveal the types of gender inequality reflected in the novel. In this research, gender inequality theory is used to determine the types of gender inequality experienced by the character in The Female Persuasion novel, beside of that, gender inequality theory is used to show how women can overcome gender inequality. Furthermore, this study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data is gathered through quotations from the book, and the analysis is backed up by the book and the journal. The base theory is based from what types of feminism type and what kind of gender inequality, the type of gender inequality that experienced by woman including stereotypes, double burden and subordination. Besides that, in this study the writer discovered three kinds of gender inequality experienced by women: gender inequality in workplace, gender inequality in education, and gender inequality within family. The result of this study shows that the reflection Kadetsky inequality in the novel represents the woman struggle and being intellectual woman. As the main character in this story;her struggle of getting her rights as an intelligent, independent, ambitious, and desecive woman proved that she could be as equal as men. She was able to have a job to earn her own money, so that she could managed hers life independently. Keywords: gender inequality, intellectuality, struggle, The Female Persuasion.
