Abstract

This study is entitled “Power Relation in Amal Unbound Novel”. This study aims to reveal the problem of power relations in the novel Amal Unbound by Aisha Saeed. This analysis focuses on the depiction of power relations and how the characters fight them. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method and uses Foucault’s theory of power (1975) related to the problems depicted in the novel. The research findings reveal that there are power relations depicted in the novel in the form of’power relations between parents and children, as well as power relations in the w’rk environment. To end this power, the characters work together to fight by col’ecting evidence of their employer's crimes to be free from power. Amal also tries to fight against her parents in order to live a normal life. The results of this study reveal that power relations are not only to regulate the weak, but also aim to discipline someone. However, people who are objects of power can be freed from power relations by means of resistance. Keywords: Michael Foucault, objects of power, power relations, resistance.
