Abstract

The purpose of the study is analyzing the positive politeness in the dialogues transcript. The object of the study is a film with the tittle “Kung Fu Panda 2”. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative method. This method describes the analysis in the form of essay. Then the writer uses theory from Brown and Levinson (1987) in analyzing the dialogues transcript of Kung Fu Panda 2 film. As the result, there were 22 strategies of positive politeness found includes Include both speaker and hearer in the activity, Notice attend to hearer, Exaggerate, Offer and promise, Presuppose or raise or assert common ground, give or ask for reason, Give gift to hearer, Avoid disagreement, Joke, Use in-group identity maker, Be optimistic, Seek agreement, and Assert or presuppose speaker’s knowledge of and concern for hearer’s wants. From the data it can be seen that thought Kung Fu Panda 2 film has a comedy genre but this film does not remove the element of positive politeness in the dialogues.
