Abstract

This thesis is aimed to reveal the anxiety that is experienced by the main character of No Longer Human novel. This thesis used the qualitative method to explain more detail about the analysis. Library research method was used to gain the references dealing with the object of the data analysis. The main character was analyzed using the theory of anxiety in psychoanalytical study. The theory is applied to reveal and to understand the anxiety that experienced by the main characters in the novel and also the effect of anxiety to the main character life. In the end, this thesis finds that Oba Yozo has reality anxiety. Yozo fears to his dad or society that makes him feel anxiety and cannot express what his feelings to the society and start to play the role of a clown throughout his life. Furthermore, the effect of anxiety slowly began destroying Oba Yozo life. Start from Yozo addiction to drugs, prostitution, tobacco, alcohol, morphine and end up with his suicide attempt.
