Abstract

The objective of this study is to describe conflict relationship in the OUR ONLY May Amelia novel by JENNIFER L. HOLM and how the conflict in a family has happened and the conflict influences society. To analyze the data source in this novel, the writer uses the theory from Marxian (1844) and ASCAN F KOERNER & MARY ANNE FITZPATRICK (1990). Qualitative method is also applied to analyze some conflict and actions that are shown in this novel. In collecting the data, the writer read the novel several times, then selected, identified and classified the data. This novel describes about May Amelia the only girl ever born in the Nasel river with seven brothers and they are still fighting among others May Amelia in particular. The internal conflict has done between May Amelia and her brothers, May Amelia and her parents and May Amelia and her grandmother. The novel describes not only internal conflict but also external conflict, the conflict within society and nature. This study could be useful for the students of English Department.
