Abstract

This study concern about idiom are important to be understand. This study aims to describe the types and the meanings of English idiom in “Victoria and the Rogue” novel. This study is focused on finding types of idiom that often used in the dialogues in “Victoria and the Rogue” novel. This study used qualitative method to analyze data. The writer uses Fernando’s theory (1996) about idiom and idiomaticity. In his book, he defines about three types of idioms, they are pure idiom, semi idiom, and literal idiom. The result of this study, the writer found 30 (thirty) English idioms which are separeted by three types of idiom. Such as, 9 (nine) pure idiom, 7 (seven) semi idiom and 14 (fourteen) literal idiom. Keywords: Linguistics, semantics, idiom, dialogues.
