Abstract

The study is entitled "Gender Discrimination Represented in Moxie by Amy Poehler." This study aims to analyze the emergence of gender discrimination issues, which will be studied using discrimination theory and feminist approaches to overcome the issue. The object of this study is the film Moxie (2021), directed by Amy Poehler. The film tells the story of several high school students who experience discrimination by the school's proud students, Mitchell Wilson and Principal Shelly. Therefore, as a guideline, consider the Gender Trouble theory by Judith Butler (1990). This research uses qualitative methods to present findings in the form of essays and images by describing narrative and cinematographic elements. This study focuses on the action of gender discrimination experienced by the main character and her friends and how they deal with it. The results showed that Mitchell Wilson abused his power by humiliating, mocking, and sexually abused that could be detrimental to female student. After that, Vivian made a feminist megazine to make a rebellion over the injustice she experienced and her friends. Keywords: film, Gender discrimination, Moxie, qualitative research method
