Abstract
This study titled “Racism in Brit Bennett’s in The Vanishing Half” analyzes the issue of racial identity and its effects in The Vanishing Half, which focuses on how a white person views a black person, as a woman and as the main character. Bennett uses the issue of differences in racial identity and the effects that these issues have on the lives of black people in this story. The objectives of this study are (1) to identify and explain the issues of differences in racial identity depicted in The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett and (2) to identify and explain the effects of racial and cultural differences in The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. The method used in this study is the descriptive qualitative method. This study uses Dovidio theoretical book “The Sage Handbook of Prejudice, Stereotyping, and Discrimination” (2010) to support the research. The issue of racism that occurs in the novel is a racial view of other races or cultures in terms of behavior, ways, and values and the effects of racism in the form of rejection and requires adaptation in the environment.
