Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare two accents between Received Pronunciation (RP) and General America (GA) in pronunciation. The analysis of the study deals with how Phonological and Phonetic levels related to the two accents. Although social classes can distinguish those accents, the study focuses on both pronunciations IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) in words pronounced differently. The obtained result is to find out that RP and GA as non-regional accents based on geographic regions. However, they can be pronounced by everyone where the statistic data describe the minority of RP and GA as the majority. The analysis of this study uses a qualitative approach that can be collected through internet and library sources and observed based on phenomenon of human experience and behaviour. An experience of listening to songs with selected words pronounced can be identified into RP and GA especially the selected song lyrics re-sung by Lily Allen. The RP and GA accents in a lyric song can be seen from the words in the phrase. For an example, suddenly thunder, showers everywhere the omitting of the phoneme of ‘r’ occurs in RP accent that reflects to the words thunder, showers, everywhere.
