Abstract

This study aims to analyze the aspects of beauty myth and how the characters deal with the aspects of it. The object of this study is the film entitled Sierra Burgess is a Loser (2018) written by Lindsey Beer. The beauty myth is the view of patriarchy, mass media, and society to control the way women think and act to fulfill beauty standards. This study applies the qualitative method as the analysis is presented in the form of text and images. In order to guide this study, the writer uses the perspective of Naomi Wolf (1991) in beauty myth as the main theory. This study focuses on the characters named Sierra Burgess and Veronica in the film. Based on the analysis, there are four aspects of beauty myth in the film, namely work, culture, sex, and hunger. There are four strategies used by the characters to deal with beauty myth issue, namely by negotiation, confrontation, rejection, and motivation.
