Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types and functions of impoliteness strategies used by haters towards Kylian Mbappe. The object of this study is one of the social media namely Instagram and focuses on the post of Kylian Mbappe holding a jersey on his personal Instagram account. This study used qualitative research methods to analyze data presented in sentence form. The objective this study is to find out the types and the functions impoliteness strategies in column comment on Instagram Kylian Mbappe. To guide this study, the writer used theory from Culpeper (1996) & Culpeper (2011) about impoliteness strategies. Based on the findings the data and the result of this study, the writer only found 4 types of impoliteness strategies, with the total of each type collected as follows; 29 bald on record impoliteness, 24 positive impoliteness, 26 negative impoliteness, and 33 sarcasm and mock politeness. In conclusion, the most dominant impoliteness strategies used by haters are bald on record impoliteness and sarcasm or mock politeness. The writer also found that all three functions of impoliteness were used; affective, coercive, and entertaining. There were 73 comments which is the most dominant function used by haters is affective function to expressed the anger and to attack the interlocutor.
