Abstract

This study examines the types of speech acts and the functions of speech acts utilized in grammar teaching and learning on Jellyfishnchips' YouTube channel. The theories applied in this study are namely Austin and Searle. The Austin theory is used to analyze the type of speech acts. The Searle theory analyzes the functions of speech act in grammar teaching and learning on Jellyfishnchips' YouTube channel. The study used a qualitative method of data collection and analysis. Based on the study, there are three types of speech acts on Jellyfishnchips' YouTube channel. They are locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary. Furthermore, there are five functions of speech acts on Jellyfishnchips’ Youtube. They are assertive, directive, commisive, expressive, and declarative.
